Actor Vikram has expressed his delight at being selected as youth envoy for UN Habitat (United Nations Human Settlement Programme). Vikram is part of the Asian Contingent wherein only four envoys have been selected from around the world. He had attended the 23rd Governing Council meet in Nairobi, Kenya recently.
A happy Vikram said, ' it gives me great pleasure to be selected for such a great honour. It has added more responsibility on my shoulders. All these days I was doing my bit to the society through my trust. But now the roles are doubled'.
Vikram said, 'as per the UN charter, I would take all efforts to promote greenery and eco-conservation. As a first step, we are planning to plant one lakh saplings under operatoin Pachchai Puratchi. We are planning to complete the task in one year'
'It would be gradually increased to other States of India and later to whole nation. I will also urge my fans to take it up and plant saplings. We would take up the task in schools, colleges and they would maintain it', he adds.
It was indeed a great feeling to attend the Governing Council meeting of UN. I went through the same emotions of winning the National award when I was in Nairobi, he adds.
Vikram to a question on whether, he would take up politics as a career option, says, 'frankly I am not an articulate speaker, which is a pre-requisite to enter politics. However who knows what may happen tomorrow'.
